ES Windows Window Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have an ES Windows product in your Los Angeles home and the installation has failed or the window itself needs replacing, we install ES Windows-compatible windows and can typically complete a full window installation for $850 – $2,400 per opening depending on size, frame material, and whether we’re doing a pocket replacement or full-frame tear-out. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover a problem the hard way: a window that suddenly won’t lock, a draft that wasn’t there last winter, or a frame that’s started to pull away from the stucco. You’re not looking for a sales pitch. You’re looking for someone who knows ES Windows products, stocks the right installation components, and will show up when they said they would. That’s the page we built here.

Which ES Windows Models This Applies To

ES Windows produces extruded aluminum window and door systems, and the installation requirements vary meaningfully across their product families. The ES Studio line uses narrower frame profiles than the ES 600 or ES 700 Series, which means the shim space and flashing depth change from one series to the next. A window pulled from an ES Studio frame won’t drop cleanly into an opening cut for an ES 700 without modifying the rough opening. This is the most common compatibility mistake we see from general contractors in Los Angeles who treat every aluminum window as interchangeable. Before you order anything, check the label on the inside edge of the operable sash. ES Windows stamps the series number there, along with the glass package code. That stamp tells us exactly what we’re working with.

When it comes to parts, we carry genuine ES Windows hardware and weatherstripping where it matters: locks, keepers, rollers, and the nylon glides that ES uses in their sliding door tracks. Where a quality aftermarket equivalent makes sense, such as specific glazing beads or exterior gasketing that ES sources from third parties anyway, we’ll tell you and let you decide. We’re not affiliated with ES Windows. We’re an independent installer and service provider, which means we call it straight on whether the OEM part is worth the wait and the premium or whether an equivalent gets you the same lifespan at a better price.

One more thing to look for: ES Windows frames made before 2015 in Southern California coastal areas often used a thinner anodized finish. If you live within three miles of the ocean in Los Angeles, even a properly installed ES window from that era can show pitting on the frame where salt air has worked on the aluminum. That’s a frame condition issue, not an installation failure, and it changes what we recommend.

Signs Your ES Windows Window Installation Is Failing

  • Water staining on the interior drywall around the window. This almost always points to failed perimeter flashing or a seal between the nailing flange and the weather barrier. In Los Angeles, where we get sudden heavy rain after long dry spells, the problem shows up fast once water finds a path.
  • The sash drags or sticks when you open or close it. Aluminum frames expand and contract with temperature swings. If the original installer set the frame without proper shim spacing, a window that worked fine in May binds up by August on the sunny side of the house.
  • Condensation between the glass panes. That’s a failed IG seal (insulated glass unit), which means the gas between the panes has leaked out. It’s not an installation failure on its own, but we often find that a poor install accelerated the seal failure by stressing the frame in a way it wasn’t designed to flex.
  • You can feel air moving around the closed sash. Weatherstripping compresses over time, but if you’re feeling a draft on a window less than five years old, the frame may have been set out of square. No amount of new weatherstripping fixes a racked frame.
  • The window lock won’t fully engage or the keeper is loose. This is the part we replace most often on ES Windows installation repairs in Los Angeles. It’s a small hardware issue on the surface, but it’s also a sign that the sash alignment has shifted, and that’s an installation problem, not a hardware problem.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, a single ES Windows-compatible window installation typically runs between $850 and $2,400 installed. The spread comes down to a few things. A pocket replacement, where we fit the new window into the existing frame, sits at the lower end. A full-frame tear-out, where we remove the old frame down to the rough opening, reframe as needed, and install new flashing, runs higher. Fixed picture windows cost less than operable sliders or casements. Impact-rated glass pushes the price up, and so does any stucco repair around the opening.

Every quote we give in Los Angeles is a written price before any work starts. You’ll see the part cost, the labor cost, and exactly what’s included. No one revises a number at the door. Our installation work carries the written Kingswell Guarantee: if the install fails within the guarantee period, we come back and make it right at no charge.

Most single-window replacements from start to finish run $1,100 – $1,800 in the Los Angeles market. Call (213) 810-3461 and we’ll give you a real number for your specific opening.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. If you want to check the hardware before you call anyone, you can safely do this: open the window, look at the lock and keeper, and check the screws. Loose screws are common and you can tighten those yourself. You can also inspect the exterior caulking around the frame. Cracked or missing caulk is something you can identify, and even re-caulk if you’re comfortable on a ladder.

What you shouldn’t attempt is pulling the frame. Windows in Los Angeles homes sit behind stucco, and removing an ES Windows frame without cutting back that stucco properly means tearing out sections you didn’t plan to replace. We’ve also seen homeowners try to “fix” a sticking sash with a pry bar and end up snapping the welded aluminum corner. That’s a replacement, not a repair. If the window is fogged, drafty, or the frame won’t sit square, call us at (213) 810-3461. The diagnosis visit is free, and you’ll get a straight answer even if the answer is that you don’t need to spend money yet.
